Wall Street Journal features TheCarrot in technology & health

"TheCarrot.com acts as an online journal that people can use to track more than 30 health-related aspects of their lives. Users can input their information directly on the Web site or through an iPhone application. The information can then be viewed in reports that track a single factor, like your weight, or several factors together, so you can see, for instance, how your exercise and sleep are affecting your mood. Users can print reports to share with doctors."

TheCarrot.com supports National Workplace Wellness Week.
April 6, 2010

Initiated by the American Heart Association (AHA) and introduced by Reps. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-SD) and Charles Boustany (R-LA), the full U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution that designates the first full week of April as "National Workplace Wellness Week." During this week, employers across the country are encouraged to invest in the health of their employees by creating worksite health promotion programs, or by sharing their worksite wellness experiences with other employers. The resolution is endorsed by AHA, Chamber of Commerce, Partnership for Prevention, and many other groups concerned about the health and wellness of American employees.

"Offering a workplace wellness program is the first step towards building a culture of health. There's no doubt that well designed programs result in cost savings across the board while creating a healthier workforce," says Kara Connors, MPH, Vice President of Health Programs for TheCarrot.com. "It's been proven that employer spending on health promotion and disease prevention is a wise business investment."

Data indicate that workplace health programs have achieved a rate of return on investment ranging from $3 to $15 for each dollar invested with savings realized within 12 to 18 months. And this is good news for employers, since nearly 60 percent of employers' after-tax profits are spent on corporate health benefits, and an estimated 25-30 percent of companies' medical costs per year are spent on employees with excess health risk.

"Companies are becoming smarter and more efficient in their delivery of wellness programs," reports Connors. "We believe TheCarrot.com offers an interactive and responsive solution for individuals to achieve health goals and follow through on their progress. Our growing number of health programs can be used as a 'stand alone' service, or complement and enhance programs that are already in place."
