TheCarrot.com supports National Workplace Wellness Week.
April 6, 2010 at 01:06:32 PM
TheCarrot.com is a proud supporter of National Workplace Wellness Week, April 4-10, 2010, by encouraging businesses to support their employees’ health and wellness through offering programs that promote health.
Initiated by the American Heart Association (AHA) and introduced by Reps. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-SD) and Charles Boustany (R-LA), the full U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution that designates the first full week of April as “National Workplace Wellness Week.” During this week, employers across the country are encouraged to invest in the health of their employees by creating worksite health promotion programs, or by sharing their worksite wellness experiences with other employers. The resolution is endorsed by AHA, Chamber of Commerce, Partnership for Prevention, and many other groups concerned about the health and wellness of American employees.
"Offering a workplace wellness program is the first step towards building a culture of health. There's no doubt that well designed programs result in cost savings across the board while creating a healthier workforce," says Kara Connors, MPH, Vice President of Health Programs for TheCarrot.com. "It’s been proven that employer spending on health promotion and disease prevention is a wise business investment."
Data indicate that workplace health programs have achieved a rate of return on investment ranging from $3 to $15 for each dollar invested with savings realized within 12 to 18 months. And this is good news for employers, since nearly 60 percent of employers’ after-tax profits are spent on corporate health benefits, and an estimated 25-30 percent of companies’ medical costs per year are spent on employees with excess health risk.
"Companies are becoming smarter and more efficient in their delivery of wellness programs," reports Connors. "We believe TheCarrot.com offers an interactive and responsive solution for individuals to achieve health goals and follow through on their progress. Our growing number of health programs can be used as a 'stand alone' service, or complement and enhance programs that are already in place."

Upgraded iPhone App 2.0 Offers Most Comprehensive Health, Nutrition, Fitness & Lifestyle Tracking
August 6, 2009 at 05:09:12 PM
SAN FRANCISCO--August 6, 2009--TheCarrot.com, the leading provider of life-management tracking and reporting, announced today that a significant upgrade to its popular iPhone application (app) is now available. TheCarrot.com offers more than 30 trackers, the broadest range of health and lifestyle trackers available on a single iPhone app, and the 2.0 application provides a more intuitive and enjoyable experience combined with improved functionality. Users can now better track an ever-expanding array of daily activities such as food intake and workouts as well as better manage health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and asthma.
The free upgraded iPhone app provides real-time, on-the-go access to all tracker histories, photos and journal entries, and the ability to search for nutritional information, medications, symptoms and more. Information can be entered in a variety of formats, depending on user preference. Individuals who track their exercise patterns, for example, can choose to record the date, time, duration, location, distance and/or perceived exertion with accompanying photos. People tracking what they eat now have instant access to nutritional information on more than 20,000 foods.
“We’re excited to bring users the newest version of TheCarrot.com’s iPhone app, designed to empower consumers who want to take charge of their health and well-being,” said Douglas Trauner, CEO and founder of Healthcare Analytic Services, creator of TheCarrot.com. “The benefits of ongoing monitoring to encourage healthy behavior have long been recognized, but until now there wasn’t a mobile, one-stop option for all areas of interest. We are proud that TheCarrot.com is helping transform lives.”
TheCarrot.com also offers users the unique ability to correlate tracked items into a personalized report to determine how one behavior impacts others, such as: How does mood impact food intake? Do certain foods trigger headaches? Does the timing of a medication affect sleep or blood pressure? Identifying these trends and triggers can motivate users to proactively change habits and behaviors. The robust reporting feature also enables users to share this information with physicians, nutritionists, trainers, coaches and other professionals.
TheCarrot.com 2.0 app is available for free from Apple’s App Store. The app can be used with an iPhone (OS 2.0 or later) and iPod Touch.

New Trackers Empower Women of All Ages to Take Control of Their Lives and Bodies
April 6, 2009 at 02:40:45 PM
SAN FRANCISCO--Apr 6, 2009--TheCarrot.com, the leading provider of life-management tracking and reporting, announced today at the Healthcare Information & Management Systems (HIMSS) 2009 Conference the release of a suite of trackers that address the changing life needs of women. These trackers—Menstrual Cycle, Ovulation, Pregnancy and Menopause—join TheCarrot.com's other free online and iPhone trackers that include exercise, food, medications, mood, disease management and much more.
“As an OB/GYN provider, it is extremely helpful to have accurate data from a patient as to when her problems began and how they have progressed,” says Valerie Sorkin-Wells, M.D., a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist (OB/GYN) from the Arizona Wellness Center for Women in Phoenix. “For example, using TheCarrot.com's women's health trackers is an objective way for a woman to monitor her menstrual pattern so that she not only becomes comfortable with what is her norm, but to also identify disruptive patterns that could be the first sign of concern.“
The Women's Health trackers allow women to monitor everything from symptoms to moods to weight as they navigate important life phases like trying to get pregnant or managing menopause.
“Women using TheCarrot.com expressed a strong need for trackers that can help them understand the bigger picture of what's going on with their bodies,” states Douglas Trauner, CEO and founder of Health Analytic Services, Inc., the producer of TheCarrot.com. “Not only do these trackers help women easily manage their everyday health, they also support the ability to take control of all aspects of their life that influence health—from home life to career.”
TheCarrot's tracking service goes beyond the basic journaling functionality of most other online tools. Users can run personalized, easy-to-read reports based on their tracking data that clearly show trends and cause-and-effect relationships among the areas they are tracking; women can use that information to make changes in the right areas to improve their health and well-being.
To access the Menstrual Cycle, Ovulation, Pregnancy, or Menopause trackers, or to view other popular health and life management trackers for the iPhone or Web, visit www.TheCarrot.com.
Use of TheCarrot.com’s Hypertension Tracker Soars 30% During Heart Month
March 5, 2009 at 01:37:55 PM
SAN FRANCISCO--March 5, 2009--TheCarrot.com, the leading provider of life-management tracking and reporting, announced today that use of its hypertension tracker, which monitors blood pressure and heart rate, increased 30% during Heart Month in February 2009. This jump demonstrates that TheCarrot.com’s heart-related trackers—including stand-alone blood pressure, heart rate and cholesterol trackers—are helping Americans who increasingly want to take greater control of their heart health. TheCarrot.com’s free health and life management trackers can be accessed on the Web or downloaded from the iPhone app store.
The American Heart Association, American Society of Hypertension and the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association recommend routine at-home blood pressure monitoring for people with high blood pressure. TheCarrot.com’s convenient, fun and easy-to-use tools keep track of blood pressure trends, and it is the only site that can correlate these results with other behaviors such as medication use, exercise, salt and fat intake, as well as stress levels to provide insights on behavior changes that can reduce heart-related problems.
Self-monitoring is increasingly being recognized as a vital component in encouraging healthier habits. “Becoming more active in their own care may also motivate patients to take other measures to lower their blood pressure, such as increasing physical activity, reducing salt and following a healthy dietary pattern,” said Daniel W. Jones, M.D., past president of the American Heart Association and vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
The Mayo Clinic also encourages self-monitoring, “Taking your own blood pressure measurements has been shown to result in better blood pressure control and greater success meeting blood pressure targets. You gain a stronger sense of responsibility for your health, and you may be even more motivated to control your blood pressure with an improved diet, physical activity and proper medication use.” Additionally, “home monitoring may cut down on the number of visits you need to make to your doctor or clinic” as well as “help you and your health care team make decisions about your ongoing treatment strategy.”
“TheCarrot.com’s unique reporting capability can integrate the broadest range of health and lifestyle trackers available at a single site,” explained Douglas Trauner, CEO and founder of Health Analytic Services, creator of The Carrot.com. “Armed with this information, empowered consumers can more easily stay engaged in transforming their lifestyles to optimize their health and well-being.”
TheCarrot.com releases new health, fitness and lifestyle trackers monthly in response to user requests.
User Demand Drives Development of TheCarrot.com Trackers for New Year’s Resolutions
December 30, 2008 at 02:22:06 PM
San Francisco—Dec. 30, 2008— TheCarrot.com, the leading provider of life-management tracking and reporting, announced today great news for those who make New Year’s resolutions. Users report that TheCarrot.com’s free, real-time trackers available on the iPhone and web and unique reporting capabilities make it easy to adopt and sustain healthier habits.
More than just a tracker – TheCarrot.com is about life management
Spanning health, fitness, nutrition, lifestyle, job satisfaction and disease management, existing trackers already address many of the most popular New Year’s resolutions such as quitting smoking, losing weight, exercising and spending more time with family.
Going beyond online recording of what you eat or when you exercise,
The Carrot.com allows you to generate reports to see trends that help identify – for example - those mood triggers that cause you to smoke or overeat. Knowing these trends makes it easier to eliminate harmful habits or replace them with good ones.
If spending more time with family is your goal, reporting can reveal –
for example – time spent watching TV you don’t actually enjoy. Use those pockets of time to enhance the quality and quantity of family time.
The scope and number of trackers is constantly expanding, driven by users who start to see trends in how one aspect of life affects another and the cumulative impact on their health and well-being. Reporting can be done across all trackers, making TheCarrot.com the only true life-management tool.
With a couple of clicks, a user can capture daily activities and associated photos to track and measure against short- and long-term goals. Unique, easy-to-create and read reports allow tracking of trends and correlations between actions and outcomes – across all aspects of life – for never-before-seen insights into how what we do impacts our lives.
“Users of TheCarrot.com typically start with a single goal – for example – managing their weight,” explains Douglas Trauner, CEO and founder of Health Analytic Services, Inc., the producer of TheCarrot.com. “As users take advantage of the trend reporting and learn more about themselves, they begin to incorporate additional trackers to see how things like sleep and job satisfaction have a profound affect on their ability to manage their weight.”
User requests strongly influence the addition of new trackers. To access a full list of trackers, visit TheCarrot.com List of Trackers or to submit a tracker suggestion, visit the Tracker Suggestions page.
